WSA Parent Info Session (Feb 5th, 8PM) // Topic: US Soccer Changes to Age Groups for Fall 2026+
Starting in Fall 2026, as decided and announced by U.S. Soccer, the system for team formation will shift from current “calendar year” (Jan 1–Dec 31 age groups) to one that more closely aligns with players’ school grade (date range for age groups to shift to Aug 1–July 31).
This change is a U.S. Soccer-driven change applied to all youth soccer clubs and their participants.
US Youth Soccer CEO Tom Condone states: “…our mission is to support the development of every player. After careful collaboration with our partners and listening to our membership, we believe this shift to an August 1 player formation cycle better aligns with school calendars, supports social and individual needs, and ultimately enhances the youth soccer experience for families across the country.”

Benefits of Change in Fall 2026+
Better experience for all developmentally and socially
Reduce/eliminate “trapped players” - eg those in current system that become too old for available teams (usually occurs at 8th grade)
Enable WSA to more closely align teams with Wilton schools (eg MD, CM or MB) vs. crossing over two schools/grades to form teams - this may also benefit practice schedules
Note players can play up an age group if that is best for player/team/program; WSA will be sure to communicate with those who either are interested / or recommended for this path
