Frequently asked questions.
Is WSA a non-profit organization?
Yes! WSA is a Wilton-based 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization lead by volunteers from our community who are passionate about providing children an opportunity to grow, make friends and compete through fun and high quality soccer programs.
Can I volunteer or get involved?
Absolutely. We rely on dedicated volunteers who support our programs and players in many ways. You can volunteer to coach a recreational youth team, manage a developmental or competitive team, assist in seasonal field setup and takedown, join the WSA volunteer Board of Directors to support the organization’s mission and initiatives, and so much more. Please send an email to info@wiltonsoccer.info with your interest!
Who can play WSA soccer?
Any child that lives in Wilton is eligible to participate in an age appropriate program that suits their aspirations and goals. In some cases, children from outside of Wilton may participate in our programs with approval of the WSA Board of Directors and relevant program coordinators.
When does WSA offer programs?
WSA’s primary seasons are the fall (late August until early November) and spring (late March until early June). In these seasons we offer recreational and competitive programs to suit every player. We offer additional programming of our own and through partners in the winter season and summer.
When are tryouts for WSA competitive teams and which players should attend?
WSA tryouts for its competitive teams are in late spring, typically mid/late May each year. Registration typically opens in April. Tryouts are for children of certain birth years for the upcoming fall season.
Any player who loves the game, demonstrating enthusiasm for increased development and game opportunities should consider trying out for a competitive WSA team. The program offers two practices per week, league games and playoffs (U11+), CT Cup play (State tournament) and tournaments. We recommend players commit to both the fall and spring seasons for the benefit of their development in soccer and the continuity of teams.
Is WSA multi-sport friendly?
Yes! Studies show that children playing multiple sports and seeking to be well rounded by way of other non athletic endeavors are healthier and happier in many ways. Specialization at too young an age can cause injuries of over use, fatigue and burn out. As such, WSA is major supporter of children participating and trying multiple sports and activities as they grow. We have structured programs to be age appropriate in terms of weekly and seasonal frequency to match recommendations of U.S. Youth Soccer. We further work closely with the peer youth sports organizations in Wilton to minimize the overlap in practice and game schedules among other sports in the same season. We can not accommodate or resolve every conflict, but we do our best. WSA recommends players treat soccer as their primary sport in the fall season and either their primary or second sport in the winter and spring seasons.
