Spring 2025 Season: News and Notes
April 6, 2025
Hi WSA families,
It would not be the first day of spring season if we were not collectively managing weather and field challenges. Please check in with TeamSnap and your manager for updates on your games. Some are on as planned, some are being adjusted and some are postponed.
Please take a few minutes to read below.
Off-Season Happenings:
Division I and USA Soccer Coach Hosts Seminar for WSA Coaches: David Clarke, Quinnipiac Women’s Head Soccer Coach, long-time USA Soccer trainer/coach and much more, lead an in-depth seminar for our WSA coaching staff in March. Topics covered included structuring training sessions for success, age group-based technical and tactical development priorities and understanding players in context of the whole person. We will continue to offer our coaches resources to deepen their knowledge and skills.
CJSA / US Youth Soccer Update Zero Tolerance Referee Policy and Penalties: Our umbrella organizations have implemented even more clear and stringent policy regarding referee interactions. Review the guidelines and summary of penalties HERE. The policy remains ZERO tolerance and carries clear repercussions for those violating. As we always have, please represent WSA in the most positive way for benefit of our program, players and of course, referees in accordance with our agreed Code of Conduct. While this applies to all referee interactions, please be extra supportive of the younger referees - they are learning and providing us and our players a great service. Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
Spring 2025 Season Notes:
Help Your Managers: please communicate with team managers early and often about potential conflicts. Be clear about time away for the school breaks so managers can navigate to best alternatives for games. It’s a busy and short season; they are working hard to get all games scheduled and played around a myriad of factors. Field schedules are very tight due to more limited field space in spring season and availability of referees - we appreciate all doing best to make them work.
Assist Adjacent Teams: Given busy schedules and conflicts, if your player is interested and able to pick up a second game on a few weekends here and there for other teams in their age group (when requested), that is a huge help and benefit to all. Team managers will communicate these opportunities on a rolling / as needed basis. Thanks for considering!
Be Sensitive to Field Considerations: Winter and early spring have not been kind to grass fields - they will improve as the growing season begins with warmer weather soon - on certain fields we are seeking to rest all or portion to get them back up to standard for later in season or next fall, please respect the areas that are out of use (most notably the front half of Hurlbutt/Ambler Field, Madaras field and more).
Reminder on League Formats: U9-U10 teams will play an 8-game developmental schedule (no standings kept, no playoffs). U11 and older teams also play an 8-game schedule with standings kept to determine an end of season champion (no playoffs in spring). For review of current policies you can refer HERE.
