Tournament Weekend!

Our opening tournament weekend is here!

Participating Teams/Rosters:

  • Please click this LINK to see the teams and the specific players that will be participating on the combined teams for the event (there is a tab for Boys teams and a tab for Girls teams)

    • Only the specific players listed on the combined teams in sheet may participate in the event this weekend

    • If your player’s primary team is not participating and your player’s name is not on the sheet as part of a combined team, they unfortunately cannot attend

    • WSA included as many as possible, prioritizing those that responded affirmatively with their commitment via TeamSnap by the requested deadline (mid Aug / we tracked responses closely for this reason) while staying within roster limits for the event

    • If your player can no longer participate, please let your Team Manager know ASAP as there may be another who would like to play!

  • Teams with full commitment of their primary players for the event are participating as noted

Tournament Details:

  • Boys play Saturday 8/30, Girls play Sunday 8/31

  • Schedule (select age group, bracket and then your team)

  • Fields (scroll down page)

  • Rules

Uniforms for the Tournament:

  • We understand that nearly all uniforms ordered by end of July have been fulfilled (either ready for pickup or delivered, maybe arriving today) and some that placed orders in August have been fulfilled; of course this means some have not been fulfilled or received yet

  • Players should wear their new uniforms if they have them! Bring both white and blue jerseys

  • If your player is a returning WSA player and did not receive their new uniform yet, last year’s uniforms will work - bring white and blue jerseys; it is ok if jersey numbers have changed

  • If you are a new player this year, and did not receive your uniform yet, you have a few options:

    • 1) Wear the WSA reversible shirt your player may have from 2nd grade soccer last season,

    • 2) ask your teammates that have received their new uniforms to bring their old jerseys to the event for your player or others to borrow;

    • 3) We will place a bin of the reversible WSA shirts under a WSA tent at the event for those in need to borrow from (we have about 25-30 for use)

  • For those that have not yet received uniforms, navy/black soccer shorts will work

  • All players must wear shin guards under soccer socks (navy/dark socks ideally) and wear soccer cleats

  • No jewelry or earrings are allowed, tape over earrings is also not allowed (they must be removed for play)

WSA Tents and Snacks:

  • WSA will set up “home bases” for Wilton teams using the WSA tents available for use in logical locations (probably 2)

  • Location of tents will be communicated to managers

  • Tents may be left at Onatru Park overnight for Sunday’s teams’ use

  • WSA will collect the tents at the end of the event

  • Snacks are welcome, but please be attentive to what players consume before and after games, and always

  • Please be mindful of any allergies (WSA is not responsible for what others bring or consume), and limit too many sweets before play

  • Enjoy the down time between games - find shade and relax, cheer on the other Wilton Soccer teams who may be playing nearby, please keep an eye on your players — coaches and managers are not responsible for players between games

Tournament Reminders:

  • Arrive at field 20-30 mins before start time for each game, find your coach or manager and find an area to warmup near the field you are playing at - be mindful coaches may be running from game to game, so parent support on getting teams prepared to play and possibly for light warmups is appreciated

  • This is a kick off tournament for all of our teams

  • Many teams are getting back together after a long summer off and many others are new altogether, it will take time for them to hit their stride

  • Our goal for the event is to get to know our coaches, teammates and to get re-acquainted or in some cases introduced to the game environments

  • We are not concerned with results of matches

  • We want the players to experience the game, do their very best, support their teammates and have fun

  • Let’s celebrate the positive and avoid any negatives; let’s cheer for the team and support our coaches; let’s resist the urge to address or criticize referees or players or anyone else

  • Note tournament competition varies widely - our own teams and others are participating on a combined basis and alignment of divisions can simply never be perfectly level - it’s likely we win a few, lose a few, win a a couple by a lot and lose a few more by many… it’s all part of the experience, let’s roll with it!

  • Remind yourselves of our Code of Conduct and represent our Town, our teams and our program in a manner we can all be proud of

  • Coaches will do best to rotate players in and out and it’s likely players will sample different positions on the field at this event

  • Enjoy the time outside and among friends and ask that players take every game as an opportunity to learn, grow and improve

Thanks for your support, have a blast!
